NYC transit hub caltrava

After 11 years of work, the new World Trade Centre Transportation Hub finally opened, revealing a stunning dino-shaped architecture designed by Santiago Calatrava. This transit hub will connect about 11 subway lines with the PATH station for about 50,000 weekday riders commuting to and from New Jersey.

Inside, the virginal aspect of the main hall flooded with natural daylight gives it the appearance of a brand new cathedral. But the magnificence of the building can hardly make New Yorkers forget about how expensive the project was for the city:  the initial budget was of $2.2 billion. It finally doubled, making this transit hub the most expensive one in the world.

The new transit hub is just partly opened, as work is still proceeding in the North-East section. In August, 34.000 square meters of shops will be leased out, turning the main hall into a lively commuting space. NYTimes
