Willing to develop its awareness and attract more tourists, the Eastern Austrian village of Krumbach (around 1,000 inhabitants) contacted several renowned architects in 2013 and offered them a free vacation in the surrounding Bregenzerwald region in exchange of a new design for its aging bus shelters.
Seven international architects responded positively to this offer and proposed unique and bold creations that were unveiled in May 2014. This project also involved local architect agencies and craftsmen. Each bus shelter is very different from the other but all have in common the enhancement of the surrounding landscape. Dezeen
